TuneECU (free TuneBoy) software demo on Triumph Tiger 1050 SE

TuneECU is a free piece of software written by Alain Fontaine. It is a useful programming and diagnostics tools for the following motorcycles:- Aprilia Caponord & RST Futura, KTM 990/1190, and all fuel injected Triumph twins and triples. This video offers a quick demonstration of the software, where I load a tune (EFI map), make a few basic modifications, and load it into the bike’s computer. I also take a quick look at test and diagnostic modes. This software is a real must for anyone with a keen interest in tuning. All you need to get up and running is an OBD II cable (16 pin variety with FTDI chipset and USB interface), a PC or laptop and the free software.     Hi Mark, thank you for time on this, I’ve move the ballasts to the same place has your and did the battery I’ve taken it for a run but it still running empty with the light on,I’ve test the fuel sensor and its reading 13 ohms.

    To confirm HID, disconnect power input to ballasts, then disconnect battery, and then reconnect. Take for short test ride. If gauges come back to normal, its the HID for sure.
    If you confirm its HID, you have two options. Either swap ballasts for canbus compliant ones, or relocate current ballasts away from canbus loom and clocks. I have non-canbus ones mounted on frame under tank – this shields clocks and loom from interference. See my ultimate LED headlight upgrade video for ballast location.

    Hi SGG, fuel gauge problems can also be caused by wrong tune installed. Did this happen after new tune install? If so, check the vin number carefully on your bike and make sure you download the appropriate tune as different displays have tune variations that can affect this.
    Also, HID light conversions can interfere with communication between ECU and display, depending on whether they are non-canbus and where the ballasts are located. Have new lights just been put on?

    Hi mark I like your video on tuneboy,I’ve had my tiger 1050 for 6 months I love but its got a problem the fuel gauge is reading empty and fuel light is on and fuel tank is full,I’ve remove fuel sensor that seams all OK do you have any ideas which might help Many thanks Mark

    Mark I’ll reccoment you for beeing knighted. I hardly have any computer skills but I followed your reccomendations and advise to the letter and it worked like a charm!
    My bike had created a big stutter just off idle making it hard to pull away and make turns. Half of the time it would stall. No fun!
    I’ve reset the adaptation, tps and put in the correct tune and it’s all fixed. Thanks again from a happy guy.

    hey mark. did the tune today have a read at the tiger1050 forum under the tune ecu section thread name on the forum is “tune on a standard tiger” i believe i posted a few questions / querys probably only you could reply too. lol

    Hi and thanks for the sub. A completely stock bike will not be damaged by either the TOR or Arrow Street tune. They will just be a bit richer. It only takes 5 mins to load a tune, so I would be tempted to try the latest stock tune (your 2011 tune has already been updared) and compare how it rides compared to latest TOR & Arrow Street tune. I would think the Arrow Race would run like crap – its a lot richer.

    Mark fantastic video mate. Uv got my sub and my like and comment. I ordered the cable this evening. Daft question but I’m guessing my bike has the standard tune (as everything about it is standard 1050 2011abs) would u recommend putting a better tune on for eg te TOR or Arrow tune? I read on the 1050 forums some people with standard 1050s noticed a dif with the arrow race tune on a standard 1050

    If your engine light is on, then you will see a fault code when you select the diagnostics window. Refer to the manual to see what the code equates to, and you will have your culprit. There is an option to clear the error code, but this only works if your problem has been resolved (i.e. if you clear it, the light will come back on when you start the bike when it detects the same problem).

    but how do you figure out exactly why the engine light is on, and reset it?

    I am not sure on the KTM machines, I would suggest you find out on a dedicated KTM forum. Depends if the restriction is software (likely) or mechanical…. However I do know that with this software and cable, the French who have Triumph’s restricted to 100BHP by law can flash a new tune to the ECU to get full power map installed. Their restriction comes from the map on the ECU.
